I meant to write this as soon as I got back to the US, but I immediately hit the ground running with work, so now I have a chance to conclude on my adventures!
On our last full night (meaning that Stephanie and I would get legitimate sleep), Stephanie, Saria, and I had a sleepover in my room. We watched the movie "Salt" and then went to sleep.
We woke up the next morning and went back downtown to finish our shopping. It was super hot, so we didn't stay very long.
Around 6pm, we went to an Iftar (a Ramadan fast-breaking feast) held at school. We talked and watched a stand-up comedy DVD until sunset, where we ate a lot of really good food. We spent a lot of time chatting and reflecting on our experience in Jordan. It was a bittersweet goodbye.
We went home around 9:30ish and I took my final shower in my shower/bathroom and packed my bags. Saria came over to hang out for a bit, but then I decided I should probably get a little bit of sleep. I got maybe 2 hours, as we had to wake up at 3am to leave for the airport at 3:30. It was hard to say goodbye to Saria, but we know we'll see her again.
Getting through the airport at 4:30am wasn't too terrible, aside from the fact that we were both really tired. The good news is, we slept pretty well on the plane. We flew to London which took about 5 hours or so, and I'd say I slept the entire time. I was kind of excited, yet nervous to be going through Heathrow. Why? It was the day of the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics. I envisioned Heathrow to be a complete zoo. On the contrary, everything ran quite smoothly. The only downside was that our flight was delayed by 2 hours :-/
The 8 hour flight back to Dulles wasn't bad. I watched 2 movies, 3 TV show episodes, and napped. I have to admit, the food was nowhere near as good as the Austrian Airways food. But that was expected.
We arrived in Dulles around 5pm, got our bags, and headed home. I didn't have jet lag, which was awesome, but I was ready to go to bed after the lighting of the torch!
Overall, my experience in Jordan was a good one. I learned more Arabic and created a stronger grammar foundation. I also learned a lot about the culture and got to experience a different part of the Middle East. All of my excursions were tons of fun and I feel that I have once again grown as a person, learning to appreciate even the smallest of things.
Megan out.
